Sculptures on Canvas
The scar tissue of the soul
Materials — sculpted canvas relief, 24kt gold, acrylic, resin
Kintsugi is the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, so the break becomes the most visible, most beautiful part of the object rather than the part you hide. I borrow that philosophy for the human form. My sculptural torsos and canvases don’t erase fracture — they trace it in gold and let it stay. I call this body of work scar tissue, because that’s what it is: proof that something broke, and proof that it kept going anyway. Every gilded seam marks a place where the material — and by extension, the body, the person — chose to keep transforming instead of staying broken. Nothing here is hidden. Everything here is repaired in the open.
