About the viewer

If you’re an architect or designer.

You’re not looking for something to hang after the design is finished — you’re looking for a material decision you can make as early as your finish schedule. The Burlap Series is worked in raw, unstretched hemp and jute, so it behaves like a material, not a framed object: it wraps a curved wall, hangs free-standing as a partition, or backlights so the fiber itself glows instead of just reflecting ambient light. Because pigment moves fully through the fiber, both faces finish — a single piece can define two sides of a divider wall, or be reoriented later without ever needing to be re-hung as a “front.”

There’s a physiological case for the material too, not just the composition. Biophilic design research links exposure to natural materials and texture to measurably lower cortisol, better cognitive performance, and improved emotional regulation — the nervous system responds to raw, organic texture differently than it does to smooth, synthetic surfaces.1,2 A 2025 review found that exposure to untreated natural materials — wood, cork, comparable organic fibers — was associated with reduced stress markers and improved mood.3 Hemp and jute sit in that same sensory register. For a lobby, a residence, or a wellness space, that’s not just texture. It’s a design decision with a measurable effect on the people inside it.
